TRR 181 Mercator Lecture series by K. Lamb

Short lecture series on "Internal solitary waves in the ocean" from March 21.-23. (10-12 am)

We are happy to announce that our TRR Mercator fellow Kevin Lamb will give a short lecture series on

Internal solitary waves in the ocean

When: March 21.-23. (Mon-Wed), 10-12 AM
Where: Room 133, Bundesstr. 53. (hybrid event)

The lectures are fundamental and directed to MSc. and Phd students but also more senior scientists.

Content:
Introduction to dispersive waves, a physical (non-rigorous) derivation of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation for surface gravity waves, properties of the KdV equation, KdV and Gardner equations applied to internal waves (including solitary waves interactions and breathers), Dubreil-Jacotin-Long equation for internal solitary waves, NLS equation for internal waves. Included will be observations and
generation of internal solitary waves in the ocean.
